This week’s featured artwork is a new still life painting with an arrangement that included books and nautical elements. “My original inspiration for this piece came from my admiration of nautical stories and the shells that I have collected over the years.”
The theme was a new concept, one that required several adjustments. Once the flow of the arrangement was found, the sketch of the painting began. “With this composition, I stacked the main pieces into a pyramid configuration, and allowed the driftwood and curves of the fabric design to add some soft lines. I started the first stage of the painting by sketching in the books, glass float and hints of the shells. I then built up layers of paint to convey the unique textures of the pieces. I used the highlights to show the movement of the natural light travel through the piece ”
