The featured painting for this week is a new still life painting highlighting a bronze statue of a Chinese Gansu Flying Horse. According to tradition, the horse is perfectly balanced on one hoof atop a flying swallow, and his countenance expresses ‘mettlesome vigor’.
“In the composition design, I desired to give the sense that the horse was flying above the mountains. The background tapestry required a balance of enough detail to depict the landscape, while maintaining distance from the main elements of the still life.”
